The Air weighs 3.0 pounds (1.36 kg), and is 0.76 inches (1.93 cm) at its thickest point and 0.16 inches (0.4 cm) at its thinnest.
Less than a month after the MacBook Air debuted, Lenovo began selling a similar device, the ThinkPad X300. By contrast, the X300 has a somewhat thicker silhouette of 0.8 and 0.9 inches -- which is needed to accommodate its built-in DVD drive. And its weight rises to 3.3 pounds with its removable DVD drive.
Toshiba unveiled the Portégé R500, a 12-inch device that will weigh just 2.4 pounds , and does it all with a mere 0.77-inches of thickness, which Toshiba claims is the thinnest ever to include a disc drive.
