For some reason television shows frequently highlight TV dentists and dental work. It may be due to our fascination with self betterment or maybe it just makes for good watching. Some dentist on TV are fictional, some are real and others are even famous. The following are some classic examples of dentists on TV. Oddly enough one show that frequently highlights dentists on TV is the hit reality series Jon and Kate Plus Eight. With 10 sets of teeth to care for it should come as no surprise that the family frequently makes trips to the dentist and orthodontist. There have been episodes that show the little ones getting cleanings and check-ups and episodes that show older daughter Maddie at the orthodontist. In addition to this, Kate has frequently mentioned that she had braces as an adult, and Jon has also revealed that his late father was a dentist.
One fake TV dentist that many people may remember is Tim Whatley from the hit sitcom Seinfeld. Whatley was a reoccurring character and was part of many hilarious incidents. Whatley was accused of converting to Judaism insincerely by Jerry and he was accused of re-gifting the “Label Baby Jr.” by Elaine. His dental expertise came into play in several scenarios. He was asked to compare teeth impressions on a pencil for George, he gave Elaine free dental work and he made Jerry wonder whether he had been violated while unconscious during dental work.
One real TV dentist is Bill Dorfman. He appeared on the reality TV series Extreme Makeover. Dr. Dorfman gave extreme dental makeovers to contestants on the show. Dr. Bill Dorfman did numerous procedures, but commonly used porcelain veneers and quick teeth whitening procedures to improve the contestants smiles. The contestants also received a number of plastic surgery procedures to improve their appearance. The show was cancelled in 2007, but reruns still air on cable TV.
