The piece of the crane could have fallen in any other direction, but it ended up falling directly on top of the people standing below, claiming the lives of four construction workers. Accidents like this are becoming increasingly common in cities; the only thing that makes this accident different is that it could have been avoided. A city worker had inspected the crane just 10 days earlier after a concerned caller reported that the crane seemed to be off balance.
