ICC Champions Trophy 2009 to be held in South Africa in the month of September 2009. ICC Champions Trophy is a one day international tournament. This is a knockout tournament which has its importance after World Cup as ICC directly conducts this tournament. This tournament started in the year 1998 initially called ICC Knockout tournament and later on in the year 2002 named as ICC Champions Trophy. Fans of Indian cricket have appreciated tournaments like ICC Champions Trophy as the world cup comes once in 3-4 years. Over the last few years, in 1998 the first tournament was won by Bangladesh and in 2000 amazingly Kenya won the tournament, in 2002 ICC Champions Trophy was held in India and the trophy was shared by both India and Sri Lanka. In 2004, West Indies won the trophy in England. In 2006, Australia won the tournament that was held in India. The 2008 ICC Champions Trophy is now postponed to 2009. Due to security reasons this tournament which was suppose to be held in Pakistan in 2008 is now postponed to 2009 and this will be held in South Africa. From India seniors like Dravid and Sachin are expected to play the tournament. Former Indian Captain Rahul Dravid played his last one day international in October 2007. He was named as probable after the youngsters struggled with short pitched bowling in the twenty20 world cup held in England recently.
